Heisei Shinzan Nature Center
A facility for learning about nature and science, where you can feel the breath of an active volcano
Heisei Shinzan Nature Center opened in February 2003, and is surrounded by a magnificent and rich natural environment. The facility offers an up-close view of Mt. Heisei Shinzan and was established as a learning site where visitors can directly observe the restoration process of the natural environment of Taruki-daichi, devastated by the volcanic eruption of Fugendake.
At the Nature Center, visitors can learn about the history of Unzen Volcano and the mechanism of the birth of Heisei Shinzan, Heisei Shinzan, and the plants and animals that live in harmony with the volcano. Outside, the Nature Center provides a place for visitors to observe the regeneration of nature, pyroclastic flow deposits, the mechanism of volcanic activity, and vegetation changes to deepen their understanding.
The center is easily accessible from the Shimabara Mayuyama Road, and with emergency evacuation measures in place and a well-maintained walking trail, visitors can visit with peace of mind. Heisei Shinzan Nature Center is a place to learn with nature and nurture your scientific mind. It is a special spot filled with the charms of volcanoes that is a must-visit for nature lovers and those who love learning.
