Shimabara Hibaruyama Flower Park “Spring Flower Festival

Spring in Full Bloom! A Spectacular View Woven by 5 Million Mixed Flowers and 10 Million Rape Blossoms

Shimabara Hibaruyama Flower Park was developed through public–private collaboration on a designated sabo (erosion-control) area in Kamioribashi-machi, Shimabara City, with the hope of creating a park that would remain for future generations—symbolizing recovery from the Unzen–Fugendake eruption disaster and expressing gratitude for the support received from people across Japan. Every spring, the park hosts the “Spring Flower Festival.”

About 200 cherry trees, 5 million mixed flowers, and 10 million rape blossoms burst into bloom, vividly celebrating the arrival of spring. Take a stroll through the park and enjoy the breathtaking scenery created by colorful flower fields.

Night illuminations are also held! The fantastically glowing single cherry tree at night and the rape-blossom fields offer a different kind of beauty from the daytime.

Flower Types & Best Viewing Times

  • Late March–: Cherry blossoms, weeping cherry blossoms, rape blossoms (approx. 10 million)
  • Mid-April–: Azaleas
  • Early May–late May: Mixed flowers (approx. 5 million)

* Peak bloom periods may vary depending on weather conditions.
